All Colegio teachers use our standards-based grading system. This is a more focused method of grading than the traditional letter grade model. This system is designed to provide students and parents with very specific feedback about what standards have been mastered, which are in progress, and which seem to pose a challenge for each individual student. This system is ideal for all parents and students so that teachers, parents, tutors, and students can work together to ensure no student fails to learn a standard and no child masters a standard quickly without being provided more challenging work.
Students and teachers will work together throughout the term to create a 'learning portfolio' for their courses. Within these portfolios, students and teachers will organize assignments, quizzes, tests, and project rubrics to evidence mastery of each standard for the course. The portfolios are a WONDERFUL artifact of learning that are used to drive parent-teacher-student conferences, and students take an active role in presenting and celebrating what they have successfully learned . . . and helping build a plan to tackle those standards that have not quite been mastered yet.
