What makes Colegio Petite different from other Bilingual Charter Schools ? |

Colegio Petite is a nurturing, language-rich school that develops the global child: academically, socially, and non-cognitively. We don't teach language as a separate class; rather, we teach both English and Spanish through academic content. We offer a rigorous, K-5 dual language learning community serving Santa Cruz County, Arizona. We are a FREE, Public Charter School that is excited to serve all elementary students. Our program is designed to meet the needs of all students, whether they speak one or more languages. The benefits of learning a second language are tremendous.
This school was envisioned and developed by a group of bilingual parents, students, and community members who have a strong desire for a dedicated, dual language campus that promotes academic learning in both English and Spanish. These stakeholders, in collaboration with The Leona Group, have been conceptualizing, designing, and applying for the school's charter for the past three years. Finally, this thoughtful, deliberate planning is nearing realization, and we can't wait for our Santa Cruz community to experience the school.
Our campus will provide a rich, bilingual learning environment through offering a robust program of academics that is enriched by arts, hands-on learning, and 21st Century classrooms. Students will spend half of their day learning reading, writing, and social studies in English and will spend the other half learning reading, writing, math, and science in Spanish. Through this 90/10 model, all students will develop both social and academic language in both languages. Together, as a community, we will provide our students will both ROOTS and WINGS: Roots in our community and wings to soar through this ever-changing world.
