Charters in Arizona
Charters were first issued in Arizona in 1994. Leona Group Schools began supporting its first two charter schools in our state in 1996. Today there are over 600 charter schools in Arizona serving more than 170,000 students.
Charter schools are as different from each other as traditional public schools — it’s as impossible to make blanket statements about “charter schools” as it is about “traditional public schools.”
