Learning — Thinking-Based Curriculum
Thinking-based curriculum takes Colegio “above and beyond.”
Colegio Petite uses a thinking-based curriculum with maps for all of the classes it teaches, and teachers write weekly lesson plans that align to the maps — allowing teachers to be innovative and creative in teaching the required state standards. Assessments through the year measure student progress and identify learning gaps.
- Language Arts & Social Studies (English) — literacy skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening with up-to-date curriculum (Journeys, Reach); social studies complements literacy with non-fiction texts spanning American history, world history, civics, government, geography, and economics
- Mathematics (English) — a dynamic, personalized math program with an online portal for practice at home
- Science — scientific processes, life science, physical science, and earth science, with technology and hands-on projects
- Technology & Thinking — keyboarding, Chromebooks, Miracast, Surface, projectors, and document cameras embedded throughout the learning experience
Love — Conscious Discipline @ Colegio
The greatest gifts we can give our children are unconditional LOVE and the social-emotional skills to handle whatever comes their way. Conscious Discipline is aligned to Colegio’s philosophy of mindfulness — providing strategies and tools that allow children (and adults) to understand the relationship between emotions and actions. Adults practice regulating their emotions, voices and behaviors to teach students how to be responsible for their own. This is much more than a discipline program: it is a practice that allows students to feel safe and loved so they can focus on learning and cultivating positive relationships. Conscious Discipline uses natural consequences instead of punishment, developing the problem-solving skills students use to self-regulate. Research shows it improves students’ and teachers’ social-emotional skills, increases academic readiness and achievement, improves school climate, and decreases aggression and impulsivity.

PBIS
Proper behavior is very important to creating a successful and safe learning environment. Colegio Petite implements a school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) system — a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success, with school-wide, classroom, and individual systems of support.
