Parent Resources
Welcome parents! A parent connection is essential for every child we serve — thank you for being a meaningful partner in your child’s education.
We greatly appreciate both involvement and engagement in your child’s education. Research tells us your efforts have an extraordinarily positive influence on grades, attendance, completion of courses, enrollment in more rigorous programs, social skills, pro-social behavior, graduation, and progression to college.
Involvement vs. Engagement
Involvement looks like this: the school identifies projects and needs and provides that information to parents for their support. Engagement is different: the school listens to parents’ thoughts and ideas, and school and parents work together on collaborative projects. Both are wonderful — participate at the level that is comfortable and manageable for you.
The Epstein Framework
Dr. Joyce Epstein of Johns Hopkins University identified six types of parent involvement across a spectrum that includes all levels of participation. Consider which types would be best for your family, and make a plan to connect with our community in the way that works for you!
